M.A.R.T.S. Circa 1933

M.A.R.T.S. members in 1933

The above photograph shows a group of the members of the Medway Amateur Receiving & Transmitting Society (MARTS) with their transmitter G5MW. The Society draws its membership from the full-licensed transmitters, A.A. (Artificial Antenna) men, B.R.S. (British Radio Stations), and B.C.L.'s; the later are on the way to becoming fully-fledged amateurs at a later date. The Society has arranged a competition to take place this month (November 1933), in connection with which the "Rochester and Gillingham Observer" has offered a cup as premier trophy. G2MI is the Hon. Secretary of the Society, and can be seen directly behind the transmitter, while G6NU, the President, is on his immediate left. - Extracted from Chatham, Rochester and Gillingham Observer newspaper, November 1933
